New Mexico Forward Party

New Mexico's Independent Party

Forward. The Independent Party.

  • For Independent (Decline to State; DTS) New Mexico voters.
  • And Democratic New Mexico voters who want to get problems solved.
  • And Republican New Mexico voters who no longer recognize their own party.

The Forward Party is a grassroots party taking ideas from communities throughout New Mexico. A Forward candidate will be different in the Farmington area than in the UNM area. What binds our supporters, our members, and our candidates is a common belief in:

  • Rule of law
  • Upholding the Constitution
  • Protecting individual liberties

FORWARD TOGETHER

17 October, 2022

Welcome to the Forward Party. This is America's new political home for everyone who is tired of anger, division, and dysfunction in politics. Let's move America Forward Together.

OUR KEY ISSUES:

.

Problem: Polarized politics are bad for our country, our state, and our local communities.

Impact of Polarized Politics:

  • Democratic Decline: Political tribalism threatens democracy, encourages animosity, and makes compromise difficult or impossible. Prioritizing party loyalty over reasonable legislative solutions erodes public trust in our democratic institutions.
  • Negative Outcomes: Polarized politics foster intense dislike for "the other side" and leads to gridlock.
  • Lack of Solutions: Extremist politics focuses on negative attacks and performative conflict rather than on negotiation to solve pressing social issues that impact all of us.

Solution: Find common-sense, data driven solutions to problems we ALL care about.

The Forward Party's Approach:
  • Beyond Two-Party System: Forwardists seek to move our communities forward rather than continuing to promote the ineffective, binary left-right framework of the current two-party system that dominates U.S. politics.
  • Proposed Solutions: Forwardists focus on "common-sense" solutions such as electoral reform (e.g., instant runoff voting, open primaries, independent redistricting commissions) to reduce partisan rigidity and promote healthy competition.
  • Non-Ideological Focus: Forwardists support politicians who respond to the public and are not beholden to any party's ideological platform.

Problem: Many voters currently feel the legacy parties do not represent them.

New Mexico Politics - 2026 Key Details:
  • Party Recognition: The state officially recognizes four parties: Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, and Green.
  • Party Control: Democrats hold the governorship and majorities in both the state House (44D/26R) and Senate (26D/16R).
  • Voter Affiliation: Nearly 1 in 4 registered New Mexico voters is an Independent (e.g., unaffiliated, Decline to State, DTS).
  • Primary Elections: Semi-open primaries allow independents to now vote in either a Democrat or Republican primary.
  • Electoral Competition: ~80% of political races in NM are uncontested and, therefore, non-competitive.

Solution: Support Forward-aligned candidates, including yourself!

Strategic and Civic Benefits:
  • End Partisan Gridlock: A small number of independent-minded officials can be a swing-bloc to incentivize major parties to reach across the aisle and collaborate to find solutions.
  • Expanding Voter Choice and Voice: Centrist, politically-middle voters who feel alienated by the major parties' extreme wings can support candidates who they believe will best represent their communities.
  • Institutional Reform: Electing Independent candidates in state and local races focuses on community-specific needs without interference from national-level party directives.
  • Enhancing Candidate Integrity: Candidates who aren't tied to traditional party infrastructure can prioritize constituent needs, transparency, and accountability instead of "culture war" attacks and top-down driven party platforms.

JOIN US IN MOVING NEW MEXICO FORWARD

While reforms like instant runoff voting and independent redistricting commissions are important, we also need credible candidates who can appeal to and identify with a broad cross section of New Mexicans. Let's start now.

We hold meetups and events all across the state for New Mexicans to connect, and we have lots of opportunities for volunteers. Join the community to learn more, and follow us on social media!
